Hazardous waste management in the medical sector

Sectors

Managing waste for healthcare institutes

Safe and environmentally friendly management and disposal of clinical waste

Healthcare waste and hazardous waste are both a particular challenge for hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies when it comes to setting up safe waste management systems: these materials are subject to stringent statutory regulations – from their collection and storage on site, to their transport, all the way through to their disposal using environmentally compatible processes. We offer the medical sector a comprehensive range of solutions to ensure their healthcare and hazardous waste is managed in a sustainable way and in line with all rules and regulations. We know the needs and the challenges faced by the sector and are able to manage healthcare waste on behalf of our customers across the whole of Germany.

We also have suitable waste management solutions for laboratories and pharmacies

Sustainably treating healthcare waste with REMONDIS

Many types of waste generated by hospitals and doctors’ surgeries do not have to be disposed of but can be sent for recycling instead. These include, for example, X-ray images (after the statutory retention period expires) and chemicals from pathology departments. Medical technology is mostly made up of recyclable materials (such as plastic and metals) and photographic chemicals also contain valuable precious metals. Our subsidiary REMONDIS Medison specialises in managing healthcare waste. Thanks to the expertise of our Medison colleagues, we can guarantee that all materials are thermally treated to produce energy. Our innovative REKOMED process also enables infectious and highly infectious materials to be sterilised so they can be sent straight on to our thermal treatment facilities and used to generate electricity and steam.
