Methane gas is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect. Disposing of untreated wastes contributes to the creation of this climate-relevant gas. Since 1990, it has been possible to reduce the emissions of landfill gas by two thirds. There are two reasons for this. One is that depositing untreated wastes has been prohibited. The other is that hazardous wastes are increasingly being recycled. By establishing closed material cycles, REMONDIS is making a significant contribution to this development. Only when recycling no longer makes ecological sense do hazardous wastes end up in our special hazardous waste landfill sites, after a complex conditioning process.
